Why focus on Homelessness and marginalized?

  • Homelessness is an issue that is on God’s heart

    • Isaiah 58:7,10 [On true fasting] “Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? … and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”

    • Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in ... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

  • Homelessness is a growing problem worldwide, with devastating consequences

    • Growing trend of rural urban migration is set to increase the problem of homelessness. 55% of today’s global population of 7.6 billion is concentrated in urban centers, up from the 30% of the global population of 2.5 billion in 1950

    • It is estimated that no less than 150 million people, or about 2 percent of the world’s population, are homeless. However, about 1.6 billion, more than 20 percent of the world’s population, may lack adequate housing.

    • The problem is also worsening in affluent countries such as UK, with over 4500 people sleeping rough every night.

  • We see that there is a great opportunity for Christian professionals in the real estate sector to steward their God given professional skill-sets to extend God’s kingdom

    • The issue of homelessness and lack of shelter is intricately linked to the supply of housing provided by the government, private and/or charitable sector

    • We are hoping that innovative God inspired solutions can arise that allow for the alleviation of the problem, using this opportunity to be used by God to build his Kingdom

    • Through the Christian churches and charities on the network, we have many exciting opportunities for skilled professionals to get involved, utilizing their God given finance, construction, design etc skills to build His Kingdom.

    • Examples of opportunities include real estate finance professionals doing financial appraisals for development of affordable housing sites on church premises, or professionals in design and construction doing probono advisory on renovation work of churches and charities helping the homeless.
